한국에서는 1999년, 인천 트라이포트 록 페스티벌로 록의 열기가 처음으로 솟아올랐어요. 드림 시어터, 딥 퍼플, 레이지 어게인스트 더 머신, 프로디지 등 이름만으로도 힘이 넘치는 외국 밴드들과 함께, 국내 대표 밴드들이 쏟아져 나왔죠. 하지만 첫 페스티벌은 비 오는 날씨와 함께한 어려움에 직면했어요. 빗속에서 뛰는 크래쉬와 드림 시어터, 딥 퍼플은 정말 놀라운 공연을 선보였지만, 그 다음 날은 모든 공연이 취소되고 만 사람이 넘는 팬들은 초등학교로 대피해야 했답니다.
Rock fever first rose in Korea in 1999 at the Incheon Tri-Port Rock Festival. Along with foreign bands full of energy just by name, such as Dream Theater, Deep Purple, Rage Against the Machine, and Prodigy, Korea's leading bands poured out. However, the first festival faced challenges with rainy weather. Crash, Dream Theater, and Deep Purple in the Rain gave amazing performances, but the next day, all performances were canceled and more than 10,000 fans had to evacuate to elementary school.
그럼에도 불구하고, 국내에서의 록 페스티벌은 사라지지 않았어요. 부산 국제 록 페스티벌과 이후 나타난 여러 페스티벌들이 한국의 록 문화를 계속해서 키워나갔죠. 2006년에는 예전의 트라이포트 록 페스티벌이 인천 펜타포트 록 페스티벌로 부활했습니다. 펜타포트 록 페스티벌은 매년 열려 국내 록 페스티벌 문화를 꾸준히 유지하고 있어요.
Nevertheless, the domestic rock festival did not disappear. The Busan International Rock Festival and many other festivals that followed continued to grow Korea's rock culture. In 2006, the former Tripport Rock Festival was revived as the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival. The Pentaport Rock Festival is held every year to maintain the national rock festival culture.
하지만 2009년에는 펜타포트 록 페스티벌과 지산 밸리 록 페스티벌이 충돌하며 둘로 나뉘는 사태가 벌어졌어요. 갈등의 끝에 외국 밴드 섭외에서 승리한 지산 밸리 록 페스티벌은 여전히 화려한 무대를 선보이고 있죠. 록 페스티벌 문화가 자리 잡으면서 여러 페스티벌이 열렸지만, 몇몇은 사라지기도 했어요.
However, in 2009, Pentaport Rock Festival and Jisan Valley Rock Festival collided and divided into two. The Jisan Valley Rock Festival, which won the bid for a foreign band after a conflict, is still performing splendidly. As the rock festival culture took hold, several festivals took place, but some disappeared.
그러나 록 페스티벌의 매력은 사라지지 않았어요. 2016년에는 안산에서 열렸던 밸리 록 페스티벌이 지산 밸리록 뮤직앤드아츠 페스티벌로 다시 돌아왔어요. 이번에는 다양한 음악 장르와 거리예술을 아우르며 새로운 확장을 시도했어요. 록뿐만 아니라 팝, R&B, 소울, 힙합, 일렉트로닉까지! 그리고 이제는 더 쾌적한 환경에서 록 페스티벌을 즐길 수 있게 되었어요.
But the appeal of rock festivals hasn't gone away. In 2016, the Valley Rock Festival in Ansan came back to the Jisan Valley Rock Music & Arts Festival. This time, it tried new expansion, encompassing various music genres and street art. Not only rock, but also pop, R&B, soul, hip-hop, and electronic! And now you can enjoy rock festivals in a more pleasant environment.
